Meet SOOP Strategies Team Member, Norma Vazquez, Principal – Stakeholder Engagement

Norma Vazquez, SOOP team memberQ: How did your path lead you to SOOP Strategies?

A: I moved to Toronto in the summer of 2014 and met Sabrina while starting to build my professional network. We connected immediately, both professionally and personally, and I think it was in 2016 that I joined her consultancy group and the fun started.

Q: What is it about SOOP Strategies that you enjoy the most?

A: The TEAM!! It is a fantastic group of people, and it is so much fun to work with them. We all come from very different backgrounds and we all bring our own professional and personal experiences to the table, which allows us to learn from each other.

Q: If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?

A: Go for it!!! Whatever you want in every aspect of your life, go for it!!! Try not to pay too much attention to what other people think you should do with your life.

Q: If you could spend a day doing anything you want, with money not being an issue, what would it be?

A: Well, it would not be only one day… I would follow the Formula 1 season with my husband all over the world for an entire year.

Q: Do you have a favourite holiday tradition?

A: It is kind of a personal holiday… I love birthdays, especially my birthday. I like to celebrate it in any way possible, big or small. Sometimes I even prepare my own cake. I think it is the best way to express gratitude for all the blessings I have received in my life.

Q: What is your perfect idea of relaxation?

A: Sitting on the balcony at our house in Mexico in the morning, looking at the ocean with a cup of coffee or a Mimosa. It is our own little piece of paradise.

Q: If you could meet someone from the past, who would it be?

A: My Grandmothers. They passed before I was born. I know they were very different from each other. However, they were both smart, strong and caring women. It would have been a blessing to meet them.

Q: What is something no-one else really knows about you?

A: I love food and wine! I love to cook, especially family recipes. It is a lot of fun! I like to pay special attention to the presentation of the dish. My father always said that food not only needs to taste good, but also needs to look good, and I agree! Also, I studied for a certificate for sommelier and wine cellar management. When you study this, you learn not only about wine, you also learn about the world, the different regions, the history, the winemaking and – my favourite – the food pairings. I don’t consider myself a “somm” as I have never worked in the industry. I’m just a wine lover.

Q: How do you take your coffee/tea?

A: Coffee black with a bit of sugar please. But I can say that I have found a new appreciation for tea thanks to a wonderful friend who told me there is always a sense of comfort in a cup of tea… thank you, Sabrina!

Q: Cats or dogs?

A: I like them both but I think I’m more of a cat person. I have a special admiration for cats, I like their spirit, their independence and their “cattitude.”

Q: Words of wisdom to the next generation?

A: Take care of each other and take care of your world. It is the only way to move forward together.
