Celebrating Five Great Years

Written by: Sabrina

SDC is celebrating a milestone this year, our fifth year in business. We are excited to build on our previous success and look forward to working with new and existing clients on interesting projects including strategy, reporting, assurance and developing thought leadership.

PDAC Breakfast Event

Each year during the first week of March, Toronto welcomes mining and exploration companies from around the world at the annual PDAC Convention.  This conference is a great opportunity for people in the mining space to gather in one place to reconnect with colleagues, broaden professional networks, and share new ideas around the different challenges including community relations, technology in mining, and sustainable development.

This year, SDC hosted its first breakfast event “Charting our Sustainability Journey: The Evolution of Sustainable Development in Mining and What to Expect Next” which was held at the National Club on March 6. We’d like to thank the 50-plus guest and special speaker Jacques Gérin for making the event a success. It was a great way for us to kick off the week-long PDAC conference with a stimulating discussion around sustainability. Special recognition and appreciation to Mr. Gérin for delivering an impassioned speech around leadership in sustainable development and why it is a critical part of the extractives industry.

We look forward to connecting with you next year during PDAC.  Hope to see you then!

“Excellent event. The right people were in the room for real discussions about the challenges of mining and sustainable development.  The timing of the event and its location during a busy week were perfect, and the speaker was very engaging.”  Jennifer St Paul Butler – Sherritt International

Thought Leadership

We will be releasing our first white paper in the second quarter of 2017 outlining how the sustainability assurance process can be managed to inform a company’s sustainable development and business strategies.

Some key findings are:

  • An opportunity exists to use the assurance process to identify gaps between corporate and site-based systems, and address them.
  • Assurance can be used to deconstruct silos between functions and better integrate systems.
