Baffinland Iron Mines

THE NEED

Inaugural Sustainability Report

THE SOLUTION

We worked with BIM to produce their first sustainability report. We helped them identify their intention, their messaging, the material topics and key performance indicators (GRI Standard).  Our process included development of a customized data collection tool and worked with broader BIM to track down the data.  We gathered stories through client interviews, desktop studies, and intuiting the data result to capture their amazing journey.

Tengizchevroil (Subsidiary of Chevron)

A newly issued stakeholder plan needed employee awareness and training for better execution.

We partnered with a UK firm to design, develop and execute training modules specific and detailed to their stakeholder engagement plan.  Training included all aspects of the plan, including the grievance mechanism.  Client reported significant improvement in performance and satisfaction from the community liaison officers.

Xstrata Nickel – Kabanga Nickel Project

Strategic guidance for community relations.

For three years, we worked closely with the site team to design and execute their community relations strategy, which included stakeholder mapping, analysis, public perception interviews, supervising the SEIA process, resettlement programme, community needs assessment, community development programme, complaints and commitments management. Managing a significant budget and team, success metrics were seen in reduced complaints, increased support for permit renewals and land access, positive press and reputation

Barrick Gold

Lack of centralized system to and track community relations activities and performance at sites and corporate.

We designed and developed Barrick’s first community relations management system (CRMS). Using a collaborative approach, we engaged site and regional team members throughout the process, including three days of facilitated workshoping in Toronto.  The result was a comprehensive management system supported by key performance indicators, and reporting standards.  Each region and site was engaged early to support buy-in and help sustain the investment.  Feedback from site and regional teams was positive and appreciative of our process, which was engaging and not top down. The CRMS is still in use, providing value today.
